Problem
Claude Code appears to spawn short-lived auxiliary/helper sessions — e.g. automatic conversation-title generation and outcome/summary classification tasks that read a transcript and produce a short label. These show up in my session history/resume list alongside my real conversations.
I have no use for them in the history: they clutter the list and make it harder to find the actual working sessions, which I need to keep around for a long time.
What I'd like
Any one of the following would solve it:
- A setting to exclude helper/auxiliary sessions from the session picker / resume list (hide, not delete).
- A setting or env var to disable auto-generation of these helper sessions entirely.
- A way for
cleanupPeriodDays(or a sibling setting) to target only helper sessions, independent of the retention period for main sessions.
Why the current option doesn't help
cleanupPeriodDays only cleans by age and applies to all sessions equally. I need to keep my main conversations for a long time, so lowering it would delete the sessions I actually care about. There's currently no way to distinguish helper sessions from real ones.
Environment
- Claude Code version: 2.1.232
- OS: Windows 11
