Problem Statement

Feature request: Better distinction between custom and built-in skills

Problem

When browsing the skills list in Claude Code, it's difficult to distinguish between:

  • Custom/local skills created by users
  • Official Anthropic-built skills
  • Organization-shared skills

All skills appear in the same flat list with no visual differentiation, making it hard to quickly identify which skills are part of a user's project vs. which are built-in.

Example

In the current / skills menu, a list like:

  • schedule
  • model
  • workflows
  • usage
  • answer-pr-comments (my custom skill)
  • test-components-responsive-devices (my custom skill)
  • approve
  • artifact-capabilities

...makes it unclear which ones I created for my project.

Proposed Solution

Proposed solutions

  1. Visual indicators: Add badges, icons, or prefixes (e.g., "🏠 my-skill" for local skills)
  2. Sorting/grouping: Group built-in skills separately from local/custom skills
  3. Filtering: Add a filter option to show only local skills or only built-in skills
  4. Color coding: Use subtle color differences to distinguish skill types

Impact

This would make it much easier for users to:

  • Quickly find their custom skills when working with many skills
  • Understand the scope of their project's customizations
  • Share and document custom skills more effectively
