Preflight Checklist

Problem Statement

Our organization tracks monthly AI spend closely to stay within defined team quotas. Currently, checking current usage metrics requires manually leaving the file/editor flow to visit the web interface, running manual commands, or waiting for a ~90% warning panel to trigger automatically. This makes it difficult to plan development work around organization limits proactively.

Proposed Solution

We would love to see a persistent or easily toggled monthly usage telemetry counter directly within the VS Code Extension interface (such as a status bar item). Ideally, the format would show current spend, monthly allowance, percentage consumed, and the reset window, like this: Monthly: $66.60 / $750 (9%) · Resets Sep 30, 8 PM

Alternative Solutions

  • Using the browser-based claude.ai/settings/usage tracker (requires breaking development flow).
  • Running local CLI arguments like claude /cost or checking /usage in the terminal, which doesn't cleanly integrate with the visual extension's primary workspace status.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Use Case Example

  1. I'm working with Claude Code on a task.
  2. With this feature, I can quickly glance to my 'Account & Usage' information and see how much of my monthly allowance I have consumed (currently, only session and weekly usage exists).

Additional Context

This is especially critical for enterprise/organization environments where teams must budget token consumption across several active developers simultaneously.
