In v2.1.236, pressing Ctrl+E on a pending bash-command approval prompt triggered explain_command ("Explain this command in context."). Verified via strings on the locally cached binaries at ~/.local/share/claude/versions/:

  • 2.1.236: contains explain_command and "Explain this command in context." bound to ctrl+e.
  • 2.1.259: both strings are absent; ctrl+e remains referenced only for unrelated bindings (external editor shortcut default, ctrl+e to set group).

This looks like an unannounced regression rather than a documented change — no changelog entry found for the removal.

User feedback: this shortcut was relied on to inspect risky commands before approving. Its removal, combined with the approval prompt now prominently offering "switch to auto mode," reads as a UX regression that discourages manual command review in favor of auto-accept flows.
