Problem Statement

Descripiton: When resuming a previous session in CLI with Claude Code, currently is offered:

  • Resume from summary
  • Resume full session as-is
  • Don't ask again

Both of the first two options reprocess the entire prior conversation history at least once on the next message — either to generate a summary or to re-cache the full context. This causes unavoidable token consumption even when the user no longer needs the prior context (e.g., I forgot to run /clear before ending the session).

Request: Would it be possible to add a fourth resume option (or a flag) that resumes the named session's metadata/identity but starts with a clean message context, without first reprocessing the full history, equivalent to running /clear before it loads?

Proposed Solution

Add a fourth choice to the resume dialog:

  • Resume from summary
  • Resume with clean context
  • Resume full session as-is
  • Don't ask again

"Resume with clean context" would keep the session's identity/history on disk but start the new turn with an empty convesation context (equivalent to /clear right after resuming), avoiding the token cost of summarizing or re-caching the full prior conversation.
