[BUG] Cowork: cannot append a second dictation to the same message (personal account) while it works on another machine with the same app version

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Claude Desktop app version: 1.40609.0
  • Feature: Cowork, in-app voice dictation (mic button)

Summary

On this machine, after finishing a dictation (pressing the confirm/tick), the mic is no longer usable to append more speech to the same message. To add more, I have to cut the transcribed text, start a new dictation and paste the previous text back in, which risks losing the clipboard content.

On a second machine running the exact same app version (1.40609.0), the mic stays available after finishing a dictation, so I can keep appending speech to the same message. That machine uses an Enterprise account; the machine where it fails uses a personal account. That is the only difference I can identify. On the Enterprise machine this behaviour was previously the same as the broken one and changed at some point without any action on my side.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Cowork in the desktop app, personal account.
  2. Start a dictation with the mic button, speak, confirm it.
  3. Try to start a new dictation to append to the same message.

Expected

The mic remains available so additional speech can be appended to the same draft message.

Actual

The mic does not allow a second dictation for the same message.

Notes

Possibly related: #72469, #71764, #71551. This report differs in that the app version is newer than in those issues, and the behaviour differs between two machines on the same version but with different account types, which suggests an account or org level rollout flag rather than a client bug.
