[BUG] Usage limit discrepancy between claude.ai web and VS Code extension (5-hour session window) — still occurring, related to #9156

What's Wrong?

Description

The 5-hour session usage limit shows a different remaining/reset time depending on
which interface I check — the claude.ai web UI (Settings → Usage) vs the Claude Code
VS Code extension (/usage) — while both should be reflecting the same rolling
5-hour session window on the same account.

This looks like the same underlying issue reported in #9156, which was closed but
the discrepancy is still reproducible.

Actual Behavior

claude.ai reports the session limit resetting in ~2 hours, while the VS Code
extension reports ~1 hour, at effectively the same point in time. Both are referring
to the 5-hour session window, not the weekly limit.

This has been observed multiple times, most recently today at 11:00 CET/CEST
(Italian local time).

Environment

• Claude plan: Pro
• VS Code version: 1.135.0 (Universal)
• Claude Code extension version: 2.1.252
• OS: macOS Tahoe, Apple M4 Pro
• Date/time observed: today, 11:00 (Italy time)

Related

• #9156 — same symptom (extension vs CLI/web reset time mismatch), closed without

a clear resolution; discrepancy is still reproducible as of today.

What Should Happen?

Since both surfaces read from the same account and the same rolling 5-hour session
window, the reset time shown should match (or differ only by the few seconds/minutes
it takes to check each one).

1. Sign in to claude.ai and check Settings → Usage — note the "resets in X" time

for the session limit.

1. In the same account, open the Claude Code VS Code extension and run /usage.
2. Compare the reset times shown for the current 5-hour session window.
