[BUG] Theme setting missing from Settings → Claude Code → Appearance; code font from the same release is still present
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
The desktop release notes for 1.7196.0 (May 15, 2026) state:
Pick your code font and theme in Settings → Claude Code → Appearance
The code font half of that is still there. The theme selector is not. I previously used it to switch between a light option, a neutral dark, and a warm/brown-toned dark.
On the current build, Settings → Claude Code contains a Code font field, then an Appearance heading with exactly three rows — Interface font (Anthropic Sans / System), Transcript text size (Small / Medium / Large), Transcript width (Narrow / Medium / Wide) — followed by the Local sessions heading. No theme control anywhere in the section.
I've checked Settings → General under Desktop app as well; the theme selector isn't there either.
I can't find a changelog entry that removes or relocates this setting. The published desktop changelog lists no theme-related change to the Code section between 1.7196.0 and now.
What Should Happen?
A theme selector appears in Settings → Claude Code → Appearance, as described in the 1.7196.0 release notes.

Additional Information
Related but distinct: #50519 (requests a desktop theme toggle, filed before 1.7196.0 shipped one) and #76200 (discoverability of the app-wide light/dark setting under Appearance, which is a separate control from the Claude Code section one).
