Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

I did not do anything I know of to produce this bug. Claude just suddenly started using Linux commands after a few writes failed. This was shortly after a temporary session outage with a 503 error. I am on a Windows 11 system patched with the latest updates.

What Should Happen?

Claude should have continued trying to use Windows commands, understanding that the write problems were probably temporary or at least allowing the user more "space" to potentially solve the write problems themselves..

Error Messages/Logs

I'm not sure how to retrieve the logs for the session.

Steps to Reproduce

Prevent standard Windows copy, read, write commands from executing. Force them to fail and only after a few attempts Claude might start trying Linux commands.

Claude Model

Sonnet (default)

Is this a regression?

Yes, this worked in a previous version

Last Working Version

Worked in 1.0+, but in 2.0+ it transitions to this Linux behavior it seems.

Claude Code Version

Official VS Code Extension with Sonnet 4.5

Platform

Anthropic API

Operating System

Windows

Terminal/Shell

VS Code integrated terminal

Additional Information

I don't recall this behavior occurring in Claude Code version 2.0 terminal edition.
