Windows desktop app: repeated crash mid-session + Windows 'Repair' fails to fix it

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11 Home, build 10.0.26200
  • Product: Claude desktop app on Windows (running Claude Code inside it)

What happened
The app crashed/closed unexpectedly in the middle of an active session (both times it happened, a tool-heavy task was running — e.g. a research task issuing many web searches and browser navigations back-to-back). This has now happened on two separate occasions on consecutive days.

On relaunch, the app shows an error dialog stating (translated from Hebrew):

"You'll need to go to Advanced options for Claude apps and click 'Repair'. If you still encounter issues, reinstall this app or contact your system administrator."

Repair does not fix it
Following the prompt: Windows Settings → Apps → Claude → Advanced options → Repair.
Clicking "Repair" fails with:

"We couldn't repair this app because [message cut off in the screenshot]... close the app and try again."

The failure is reproducible — it happened again in the same way on a second occasion, not just once.

Ask

  • What could cause the Windows "Repair" action itself to fail?
  • Is there a known fix short of a full uninstall + reinstall?
  • Any diagnostic logs the app writes locally that would help pin down the crash cause (especially since it seems to correlate with heavy tool-call activity)?

Happy to provide more detail if useful — reporting this on behalf of a user who hit it twice in a row.
