[BUG] /terminal-setup not available via ssh
Resolved 💬 4 comments Opened Oct 2, 2025 by peixotorms Closed Jan 7, 2026
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
I run claude code on a remote ubuntu server via ssh.
I use Tabby Terminal on Windows to connect, then I sudo to the web app user so I can see in real time how changes work on dev.
I absolutely hate the CTRL + J for new lines, so I was running /terminal-setup to change it back to SHIFT + Enter, however, it tells me it cannot run via ssh.
What Should Happen?
It should work like any other command or provide workaround, manually triggered.
Error Messages/Logs
/terminal-setup
⎿ Terminal setup cannot be run from ssh-session.
This command configures a convenient Shift+Enter shortcut for multi-line prompts.
Note: You can already use backslash (\) + return to add newlines.
To set up the shortcut (optional):
1. Exit tmux/screen temporarily
2. Run /terminal-setup directly in one of these terminals:
• IDE: VSCode, Cursor, Windsurf
• Other: Ghostty, WezTerm
3. Return to tmux/screen - settings will persist
