[BUG] Claude 2.0.1 doesn't know how to reference/import additional files
Resolved 💬 5 comments Opened Sep 30, 2025 by outhud Closed Jan 6, 2026
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
I use AGENTS.md instead of CLAUDE.md on my project.
I wanted claude to make a simple CLAUDE.md which just references AGENTS.md.
When it did, it didn't use the correct @ method described in: https://docs.claude.com/en/docs/claude-code/memory#claude-md-imports
What Should Happen?
Claude should import/references files correctly when it's writing CLAUDE.md files itself.
Error Messages/Logs
Steps to Reproduce
Ask claude to reference a file in CLAUDE.md, it doesn't know about the @ prefix to use as described in https://docs.claude.com/en/docs/claude-code/memory#claude-md-imports
