[Bug] Fable sending messages in thinking blocks not visible to me or transcript

Bug Description
fable often sends messages in thinking blocks, sometimes answering questions, sometimes just updates as it works. These are obviously not visible to me in claude code or in the transcript files, but fable believes to have sent them and believes they can satisfy direct questions, and are sometimes referenced in the final message. When asked, it can recall the messages. Asking it not to do this has not helped, but it can report how many it thinks it sent per turn.

e.g. add this to CLAUDE.md:

In your final message, include a count of the messages you sent during the turn at the end. e.g. "msg: 2/2"
