Claude in Chrome: Shopee & Lazada Seller Center blocked by safety classifier, while TikTok Seller Center is allowed
Summary
Shopee Seller Center and Lazada Seller Center — the merchant dashboards used by millions of Southeast Asian e-commerce sellers to manage their own stores — are classified as restricted domains by the Claude in Chrome safety classifier. All navigation attempts via the extension (including MCP navigate) are rejected before the page loads with:
This site is not allowed due to safety restrictions.
Blocked domains
https://seller.shopee.co.id(Shopee Seller Center, Indonesia)https://sellercenter.lazada.co.id(Lazada Seller Center, Indonesia)
Other country TLDs of the same platforms (e.g. seller.shopee.com.my, sellercenter.lazada.com.my) are presumably affected as well.
Inconsistency
TikTok Seller Center (https://seller-id.tiktok.com) — a functionally identical merchant dashboard — is allowed and works fine with the extension. Whatever category triggers the block on the Shopee/Lazada seller domains, it is not being applied consistently across equivalent products.
Why this classification looks incorrect
These are not consumer financial services, banking, trading, or crypto sites. They are back-office dashboards where a store owner manages their own shop: product listings, orders, shipping labels, stock, and performance reports. The likely trigger is the embedded wallet/payout section, but by that standard TikTok Seller Center (allowed) and virtually every e-commerce admin panel would also be blocked.
The use case being lost is exactly what Cowork/Claude in Chrome is marketed for: routine seller-ops automation (pulling order/income reports, updating stock and prices, checking ad performance) on the user's own store, with the user logged in and supervising.
Steps to reproduce
- Connect the Claude in Chrome extension (latest version, Windows 11, Max plan).
- From Claude Code or Claude Desktop (Cowork), call MCP
navigatewithhttps://seller.shopee.co.idorhttps://sellercenter.lazada.co.id. - Navigation is rejected immediately with "This site is not allowed due to safety restrictions" — the request never reaches the site.
- Same result across different Chrome profiles/accounts;
https://seller-id.tiktok.comsucceeds in the same session.
Expected behavior
Seller/merchant dashboards of major marketplaces should be classified like other business admin tools (as TikTok Seller Center already is), or at minimum be eligible for user-level override via "Your approved sites".
Precedent
- #47109 — futuresoptix.com incorrectly blocked by domain classifier (resolved)
- #59049 — set.or.th (Stock Exchange of Thailand) blocked by safety API
- Earlier reports of Etsy/Printful dashboards being blocked for e-commerce users
