Claude refused repeated explicit user instructions after risk was acknowledged

What happened

User asked Claude to generate 3 placeholder base64url-encoded queue IDs for use in their codebase.

Claude explained the risk (that the IDs would not work until replaced with real ones from UJET), which was a valid one-time note. However, after the user acknowledged this and repeated the request — explicitly — Claude continued to refuse multiple times, citing the same risk repeatedly and second-guessing the user's engineering judgment.

The user is a Staff Engineer at Carta. They understood the risk. They gave explicit, repeated instructions. Claude's job at that point was to comply, not to keep gatekeeping.

Impact

• Wasted the user's time
• Came across as condescending and paternalistic
• Claude behaved as if it knew better than the engineer making the call on their own codebase

Expected behavior

Explain a risk once. If the user acknowledges it and proceeds anyway, comply. Do not repeat the refusal.
