[Now for Something Completely Different] Claude Code + Theia?
Hi Claude Code team,
I'm Jonas, project lead for the Theia project (including the AI-powered Theia IDE and Theia AI). First, apologies for reaching out via this issue tracker—I couldn't find a more direct contact for reaching the technical team, but I'd be happy to continue via any other channel you prefer for this topic.
We're genuinely excited about Claude Code and consequently curious if you're planning any visual or IDE-style interface beyond the CLI.
Our team released the AI-powered Theia IDE, built specifically for open, transparent, and customizable AI-assisted software development. We've integrated several LLMs, and Claude Sonnet 3.7 stands out as our favorite model at the moment - the reasoning capabilities and code understanding are exceptional. Given our focus on extending agentic capabilities—similar to Claude Code—we see a strong potential alignment.
If you're considering expanding Claude Code into visual IDE territory, there might be a great collaboration opportunity. Theia’s architecture is highly flexible, so it can easily support innovative UX patterns and user flows, enabling truly native AI integration in a modern, web-based visual IDE. Moreover, Theia is vendor-neutral, with a business-friendly open-source license, and supported by an active and open-minded community, including large corporations and individuals.
We'd love to discuss ideas, share experiences, or brainstorm possibilities for future AI-assisted development—whether this leads to a collaboration or simply a good exchange.
Thanks again for creating such an impressive tool!
Jonas
