[BUG] Desktop Cowork & Code tab accept input but never process (macOS, Apple Silicon) — terminal CLI and browser both work fine

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

In Claude Desktop, both the Code tab and Cowork sessions accept my input but never process it — the session just sits there doing nothing, no response, no error. claude.ai in the browser works fine, and terminal Claude Code works fine. The problem is isolated to the desktop app's agentic sessions.

What Should Happen?

Desktop Code/Cowork sessions should process input and respond, like the terminal CLI does.

Error Messages/Logs

API Error: Response stalled mid-stream. The response above may be incomplete.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Claude Desktop on macOS (Apple Silicon).
  2. Open the Code tab (or start a Cowork session).
  3. Type a prompt and hit send.
  4. Observe: the input is accepted but the session never processes it — no response, no error, it just sits there.
  5. Confirm the same prompt works in terminal Claude Code and at claude.ai, ruling out account/model as the cause.

(Recovery attempts that don't fix it: full quit + relaunch, Mac reboot, clearing ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/vm_bundles, clean reinstall.)
