[BUG] claude code discarded most of what I wrote in a very long response

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Claude Code gave me a very long plan after I asked it for a thorough code review.

I typed up much of an answer in the "accept with these changes ..." field and then accidentally hit <enter> rather than \<enter>. I hit <esc>. I then started re-typing my feedback into the conversation after the "The user rejected the plan".

I spent two or three hours writing perhaps a hundred or two hundred lines of response. While I was thinking, I saw a flash, the (new flickerless) GUI changed the window pane sizes and drastically shrunk the input pane, and I was left with the first few lines and last few lines intact, but the clear majority of what I wrote was gone.

Thanks

What Should Happen?

Claude Code should not discard my typing. What I type should remain in the input window until I decide to send it or discard it myself.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

Ask Claude to spawn several review agents and ask for very detailed review over several axes, suggested remediations, etc. Anything that will cause a HUGE plan. Accidentally exit plan mode. Then start writing a gigantic response, hundreds of lines, over the course of a few hours. Wait.
