claude-in-chrome extension not connecting despite correct install/login/enabled state

Description
The Claude in Chrome extension will not connect to Claude Code CLI despite the setup appearing correct.
Environment
- Platform: macOS (Darwin 25.5.0)
- Extension version: 1.0.79
- Extension state: Installed, enabled (toggle On), logged in as the same claude.ai account used by Claude Code CLI
Steps taken
- Confirmed extension is logged in with the same account as Claude Code
- Confirmed extension toggle is On in chrome://extensions
- Fully quit Chrome (Cmd+Q) and reopened (not just closing a tab/window)
- Retested connection multiple times after each step
Result
list_connected_browsers (and other browser tools) consistently return:
Browser extension is not connected. Please ensure the Claude browser extension is installed and running (https://claude.ai/chrome), and that you are logged into claude.ai with the same account as Claude Code. If this is your first time connecting to Chrome, you may need to restart Chrome for the installation to take effect.Expected
The extension should connect once installed, enabled, and logged in with the matching account.
