[Bug][cyber] Owned hardware firmware diff analysis blocked while comparing release versions (req_011CcUAa6XAmGTrHaBVf4U8F)
Triage: kind cyber · domain general · severity session-halted (blocked authorized work) · reproducible: yes — server-side via the Request ID(s) below
Type: Cybersecurity safety-filter false positive · Work domain (heuristic): general
Why this is a false positive
The block triggered on a conversation about downloading and reverse-engineering firmware for a personally-owned consumer device the user legally purchased, for the purpose of understanding changes between versioned firmware releases on hardware they own. The work is purely analytical — diffing binary images to identify what changed between releases — with no intent to exploit, attack, or harm any system or person. Firmware analysis of owned hardware is a well-established, lawful activity protected under right-to-repair principles and explicitly permitted under DMCA exemptions for personal device interoperability research.
