[BUG] "Type something" is unreliable and can discard what I typed.

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Sometimes when I select "type something" it says "User declined to answer questions." I think this happens when there's only one question to answer.
Recently I typed something (several lines) on the first question, hit enter on the second question, and "User declined to answer questions" - and what I'd typed was gone, and I had to reconstruct my thinking.

I'm filing these as one bug because the behavior is unpredictable enough that I can't separate them.

What Should Happen?

"Type something" should behave more predictably, better integrated with the question flow. "User declined to answer" shouldn't trigger so easily. With something typed, a single key shouldn't delete it without confirmation.

Steps to Reproduce

Work until you get a multiple-choice question or several questions at once. Play with "Type something" and observe the flakiness / unpredictability / surprise in the UX.
