[BUG] Cowork/Code sessions hang on load after update to desktop 1.14271.0 (macOS 26.5.1)

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Summary:
After auto-update to desktop 1.14271.0, Cowork and Code sessions fail to load — infinite spinner. The Cowork pane is now fully unresponsive (cannot type or press Enter). Chat tab works normally. No issue before this update.

Details:

  • Only 3 sessions (group "01. EL") load; all other Code/Cowork sessions spin indefinitely.
  • Tried: full quit + force-quit all processes, clearing vm_bundles / Cache / Code Cache, reinstall, reducing enabled connectors — none resolved it.
  • Suspected: session init blocks on MCP connector initialization. ~25 connectors were enabled, most flagged needs-auth in ~/.claude/mcp-needs-auth-cache.json. Reducing connectors did not fix it.
  • Workaround: Claude Code CLI (2.1.183) works (only 2 MCP servers configured).

What Should Happen?

Environment:

  • macOS 26.5.1 (build 25F80)
  • Claude desktop app 1.14271.0
  • Claude Code CLI 2.1.183 (works fine)
