[BUG] Model automatically switches without user action (Web version)

Open 💬 3 comments Opened Jun 19, 2026 by Ceres-Midnight-Lav

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

On Claude Code web version, the model sometimes switches automatically without any user action. The model indicator in the bottom right changes on its own during a session. Additionally, sometimes the displayed model name changes but the actual model behavior doesn't match (or vice versa - the display stays the same but the model seems different). It takes 2-3 exchanges to notice the discrepancy.

What Should Happen?

The model should only change when the user explicitly switches it via the model selector or /model command. The displayed model name should always match the actual model being used.

Error Messages/Logs

No error messages. This is a silent behavior issue - the model indicator simply changes without user input.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start a Claude Code web session (remote execution environment)
  2. Note the current model (e.g., claude-opus-4-5-20251101)
  3. Have a conversation without changing the model
  4. Observe that the model indicator (bottom right) sometimes changes on its own
  5. Alternatively: manually switch the model and notice that the display changes but the actual model response style doesn't match

Note: This is intermittent and not 100% reproducible on demand.
