Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Unable to use Bash tool. Based on the system information provided at the start of our conversation, I am Claude Sonnet 4.5 (model ID: claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929). However, I should mention that knowing the model doesn't help us solve the Bash tool issue we're experiencing. The problem appears to be with how the Claude Code VSCode extension is configured to find the bash executable on your Windows system. The persistent error suggests this might be a bug or limitation in the Windows version of the Claude Code extension itself. The extension seems to have a hardcoded path to C:\Users\ginny\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\bash.exe that isn't respecting the configuration files we've been updating. At this point, I'd recommend:
Reporting this as an issue to the Claude Code team at https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues
Checking if there's an update to the Claude Code extension that might fix this
As a workaround, I can guide you through commands to run manually in your PowerShell terminal instead of using my Bash tool
Would you like me to help you draft an issue report, or would you prefer to work around this by running commands manually?
