[BUG] Model selection not persisting - Max subscription triggers usage credits error for 1M context

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

I'm experiencing a persistent API error in Claude Code Desktop App on Windows 11 where the model selection doesn't stick to my chosen configuration, despite being logged in with a Max subscription.

What Should Happen?

Max subscription should include Opus with 1M context, so no usage credits error should appear. Model selection should persist to opus[200k] when explicitly set.

Error Messages/Logs

This message appears if I try to type any prompt:
API Error: Usage credits required for 1M context · turn on usage credits at claude.ai/settings/usage, or use --model to switch to standard context

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Launch Claude Code Desktop App (Windows 11)
  2. Log in with Max subscription (confirmed - shows "Jacek · Max" in UI)
  3. Switch to opus[200k] using /model command
  4. Send any message in Dispatch
  5. Error appears: "Usage credits required for 1M context · turn on usage credits at claude.ai/settings/usage, or use --model to switch to standard context"
