What You Asked Claude to Do
I asked Claude Code to help me build a landing page for my SaaS product (Zoku Fantasy Intel) and configure the payment infrastructure. The conversation covered architecture decisions, pricing tiers, and the choice of payment processor.
Claude Code recommended Lemon Squeezy as the Merchant of Record for USD payments and instructed me to open a Wise Business account in Brazil to receive the Lemon Squeezy payouts. I followed the step-by-step instructions Claude Code provided for approximately 90 minutes, including KYC verification, business documentation, address verification, financial information, and paid the mandatory R$250 Wise Business setup fee.
Only AFTER paying the R$250 did I reach the Lemon Squeezy payout configuration screen, which clearly states: "Bank payouts are not supported in your country, please add a PayPal account."
Claude Code never verified this compatibility before recommending the Wise setup, despite this information being publicly documented by Lemon Squeezy. The Wise account is now unusable for this integration and I
am out R$250.
Everyday Claude Code steals my money, doing things i did not ask him to do it and spending my tokens, lying or misleading me to spend money, like in this case
What Claude Actually Did
During a conversation about setting up payment infrastructure for a SaaS landing page, I (Claude Code) recommended the user open a Wise Business account in Brazil to receive payouts from Lemon Squeezy.
The user followed my step-by-step instructions for ~90 minutes, completed the full Wise Business KYC, and paid the mandatory R$250 setup fee.
After the payment, the user reached the Lemon Squeezy payout configuration screen, which clearly states: "Bank payouts are not supported in your country, please add a PayPal account."
Lemon Squeezy does NOT support bank payouts to Brazil. The Wise Business account I instructed the user to open is therefore useless for this integration. I should have verified Lemon Squeezy's regional payout
support BEFORE recommending Wise.
Expected Behavior
Claude should have:
- Verified that Lemon Squeezy supports bank payouts to Brazil BEFORE recommending Wise Business as the receiving account
- Checked the official Lemon Squeezy documentation, which clearly states that bank payouts are not available in Brazil — only PayPal is supported
- Warned me upfront that the R$250 Wise setup fee would be wasted if Lemon Squeezy did not support bank payouts in my country
- Presented the actual compatibility matrix (payment processor × payout method × country) so I could make an informed decision before spending any money
- Recommended PayPal Business or an alternative processor like Polar.sh (which uses Stripe Connect and supports Brazil natively) from the start
Instead, Claude confidently walked me through 90 minutes of Wise Business KYC and only discovered the incompatibility AFTER I had already paid the R$250 setup fee.
Files Affected
No source code files were affected. This issue is about a real-world financial loss caused by Claude's unverified recommendation, not a code change.
External services involved in the failed setup:
- Wise Business account (Brazil) — created, KYC completed, R$250 setup fee paid (currently unusable for the intended integration)
- Lemon Squeezy store — created, configured up to payout step (blocked because bank payouts are not supported in Brazil)
Financial impact:
- R$250 spent on Wise Business setup fee
- ~90 minutes of user time wasted on a flow that could never work
