[BUG] claude agents: status bar ignores terminal width, always renders at 80 columns
Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened May 25, 2026 by deeeemiss Closed May 27, 2026
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
claude agents status bar renders truncated as if terminal is 80 columns wide, regardless of the actual terminal width.
The main claude command works correctly once $COLUMNS is exported in the shell. claude agents ignores $COLUMNS entirely — no shell-level workaround has any effect (alias, function wrapper, env prefix like COLUMNS=$(tput cols) claude agents).
What Should Happen?
claude agents should detect and use the full terminal width, consistent with the behavior of the main claude command.
Error Messages/Logs
No error output. Status bar silently truncates at ~80 columns with "..." on Session ID, Context bar, and other fields.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open a terminal wider than 80 columns (tested: 202 columns on macOS Terminal.app)
- Verify width: run
echo $COLUMNS; tput cols→ both return 202 - Run
claude→ status bar renders correctly at full width - Exit and run
claude agents→ status bar truncated at ~80 columns - Try workaround:
COLUMNS=$(tput cols) claude agents→ no change
