[BUG] Extra usage spend limit not enforced as hard cap – charged 250% of configured cap with no notification or stop

Summary

I configured a $5/month extra usage spend limit on my Max (5x) plan. This month I was charged $12.52 — 250% of my configured cap — with no in-app warning, no email notification, and no hard stop. I did not discover this until checking my billing page manually.

Expected behavior

The monthly spend limit functions as a hard cap that stops charges at the configured amount.

Actual behavior

Charges continued past the configured limit with no enforcement, no notification, and no stop mechanism.

Support escalation attempt

I attempted to resolve this through official support channels. The Fin AI Agent:

  • Declined a refund citing an unspecified policy timeframe
  • Did not answer 3 of my 4 questions
  • Closed the ticket immediately after I requested human escalation
  • Created a second conversation (ID: 215474333198804) that restarted the loop

Prior conversation ID: 215474333162937

My asks

  1. Clarify whether the monthly spend limit is a hard cap or soft cap — and where that is disclosed in the UI
  2. Provide a session-level breakdown of what generated the $12.52 (model, date, approximate tokens)
  3. Issue a credit of $7.52 for the amount charged beyond my $5 configured limit
  4. Add email or in-app notifications when extra usage approaches or hits the configured limit

Additional context

  • Plan: Max (5x)
  • The $12.52 was drawn from an Anthropic-issued credit balance, not a credit card — making a chargeback impossible
  • Related issues: #45497, #57594
