Will this eventually be open source? or is it a closed-source product?

We currently don't have plans to open source it.
Yikes, thankfully gptme and other open-source alternatives exist.
I think you're making a mistake. Gptme has 224 closed pull requests. Aider has 400 closed pull requests. Dozens to hundreds of people are standing by to help you improve this tool at no cost but review.
It makes sense to keep models closed-source sometimes, for competetiveness and safety reasons. But a console coding app is not your product, it's a complement. Good tooling increases demand for good models, so your primary interest should be for the tooling to be the best it can be. I don't see what the point is in waving off freely offered assistance.
@8enmann is there any specific reason for that? Like tool works perfectly, and still relies on Claude, so it's in Anthropics best interest to open-source it
Open sourcing a project changes how a team works dramatically, and we're not at a stage where we think we can be good public stewards yet. Appreciate the interest!
@8enmann that is actually a completely fair and reasonable response. thank you for that. 😊
@8enmann are there any plans to just share insights on how does it work/some common parts? It might help indirectly to other projects, while maintaining usage of Claude APIs. I've managed to fully automate it for my work via dev container and it works perfectly, but I want to tweak some features, e.g. add RAG with my code samples, etc, but it seems a bit impossible at the current state
Or, alternatively, maybe some plugin system if you are not ready to share code yet?
@nick4fake Claude Code is an MCP client so you can extend it that way. Would that be sufficient?
