Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

When clicking “New Session” in the Claude Code tab, the error “Git is required for local sessions” appears and no session can be started.

What Should Happen?

Claude Code should detect Git and allow a local session to start.
What I’ve tried
• Confirmed git --version returns 2.54.0 in Git Bash
• Set CLAUDE_CODE_GIT_BASH_PATH in System Variables (not User Variables)
• Ensured no spaces in the path
• Fully closed and reopened Claude multiple times
