[BUG] Desktop: “Claude Code process exited with code 1” when starting a new project (macOS)

What's Wrong?

On macOS 15.4.1, Claude Desktop app v1.4758.0, Claude Code v2.1.116 at /usr/local/bin/claude, starting a new project in the desktop app fails with “Claude Code process exited with code 1”. Running claude from Terminal works fine.

What Should Happen?

Claude code should run

Steps to Reproduce

1) Open Claude Desktop app
2) Start a new project
3) See error: “Claude Code process exited with code 1”
