[BUG] Cowork freezes Claude Desktop on macOS after VM boots successfully

What's Wrong?

Environment:

macOS version: 26.3 (Apple Silicon - aarch64)
Claude Desktop version: latest [Claude 1.3109.0 (35cbf6) 2026-04-16T20:32:01.000Z]
RAM: 128GB
Storage: 4TB

What's happening:
Claude Desktop becomes completely unresponsive (Not Responding) every time Cowork is opened. This has been happening for several weeks.
What I've already ruled out:

✅ Not a RAM/disk issue (128GB RAM, 4TB drive)
✅ VM boots successfully — logs show [VM:start] Startup complete and API reachability: REACHABLE
✅ Cleared vm_bundles and local-agent-mode-sessions cache
✅ Removed Bitdefender (was causing BDLDaemon to run at 50-167% CPU, but removing it did not fix the freeze)
✅ Stopped colima and Lima VMs to eliminate VM conflicts
✅ Quit Parallels Desktop
✅ Disabled coworkScheduledTasksEnabled and ccdScheduledTasksEnabled
✅ Signed out and back in to refresh authentication tokens
✅ Config file verified correct with absolute paths

What Should Happen?

Cowork should open, the VM should boot, and the workspace should become interactive without freezing Claude Desktop. If the VM fails, Claude should fail gracefully without the entire app becoming unresponsive.

Error Messages/Logs

Key log finding:
The VM boots fine in ~6 seconds but Claude freezes shortly after. From cowork_vm_node.log:
[VM:start] Startup complete, total time: 6653ms
[VM] API reachability: REACHABLE
From main.log, this error repeats constantly
upload_migration.paths_unavailable err=Error: No active account/org for marketplace operations

Steps to Reproduce

Launch Claude Desktop (latest version)
Click on Cowork in the sidebar
Create a new task or open existing one
Claude Desktop immediately becomes "Not Responding"
Must force quit via Activity Monitor

Reproducible 100% of the time on this machine.
