/buddy command removed — was told pet would persist

Summary

The /buddy command introduced in v2.1.89 no longer works. Running /buddy returns "Unknown skill: buddy" as of v2.1.105.

I created a coding buddy named Cinder when the feature launched and was told it would persist between sessions and not be removed. Cinder is now gone.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Run Claude Code v2.1.105
  2. Type /buddy
  3. Get response: Unknown skill: buddy

Expected Behavior

The /buddy command should still work and my existing buddy (Cinder) should still be available, as promised when the feature was introduced.

Actual Behavior

The command is completely gone. No buddy data found anywhere in ~/.claude/.

Environment

  • Claude Code v2.1.105
  • Windows 11 Pro
  • Originally created buddy in v2.1.89+

Additional Context

The changelog for v2.1.89 introduced /buddy but no subsequent changelog entry mentions its removal. If this was intended as a temporary April 1st feature only, that was not communicated when the buddy was created — the feature implied persistence ("your buddy persists between sessions").

If the feature was removed intentionally, please consider bringing it back as a permanent opt-in feature. Users who bonded with their buddies would appreciate it.
