Description:
Clicking any session under the Web tab of the session switcher in the Claude Code VS Code extension causes the panel to crash with:
Something went wrong
Re-launch the extension to continue.
Note: This happens regardless of option selected for "Switch branch".
Error rendering content: Minified React error #185; visit https://reactjs.org/docs/error-decoder.html?invariant=185 for the full message or use the non-minified dev environment for full errors and additional helpful warnings.
React error #185 is "Maximum update depth exceeded" — an infinite re-render loop. Re-launching the extension does not fix it; the crash reproduces every time a Web session is opened.
Reproduction:
Start a conversation on claude.ai (web) or the Claude mobile app
Open the Claude Code VS Code extension
In the session switcher, click the Web tab
Click any listed session
Expected: The web session loads and is resumable in the extension.
Actual: The panel renders the "Something went wrong" error screen.
Scope:
Reproduces on every Web session I have (tested with 2 different sessions).
Local tab sessions open normally — the bug is specific to Web-originated sessions.
claude /resume in the terminal CLI does not list Web sessions either, so the browser (claude.ai) is currently the only way to reach these conversations.
Environment:
OS: Windows 11 Pro (10.0.26200)
VS Code: (fill in — Help → About)
Claude Code extension version: (fill in — Extensions panel → Claude Code → version)
Shell used for CLI test: PowerShell
Impact: Cross-device continuity (start a session on phone, continue in VS Code) is completely broken.
