[Bug] UI feels stuck during long file writes or MCP uses, token counter unresponsive

Bug Description
when claude is writing long files/arguments to MCPs/etc. the UI feels "stuck", the token counter doesn't change, nothing moves except for some idle animations.

I find myself using /btw are you stuck? often because of that. I guess it's mostly the token counter not updating, but I'm not a UX person.
