[BUG] Ghost/duplicate dimmed message bubbles accumulate in chat while Claude is processing (Cowork + Claude desktop)

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Apr 9, 2026 by ginger-dixon Closed May 22, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

While Claude is generating a response, previous user message bubbles appear as dimmed/grayed-out ghost duplicates in the space between messages. This causes the conversation to stack up visually and requires significant scrolling to find Claude's actual response. Resolves temporarily after a full app restart but returns with continued use.

Environment:

Platform: Cowork desktop app, Claude desktop app
OS: macOS
Fin Support Conversation ID: 215473847237706

Actual Behavior:
Dimmed, grayed-out duplicates of previous user messages appear and accumulate between messages during processing, requiring heavy scrolling to find responses.
Workaround:
Full app restart clears the issue temporarily; returns with continued use.
Duration: Approximately one week

What Should Happen?

Only active sent messages appear in the conversation thread. No ghost or duplicate bubbles during processing.
