Problem

When Claude Code prompts to use extra usage and user accidentally confirms, there is NO way to switch back to subscription billing without doing a full /login re-authentication.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Be on a Pro/Max subscription plan
  2. Hit usage limit, get prompted "use extra usage?"
  3. Accidentally click confirm
  4. Try to switch back to subscription — no option exists
  5. Only workaround: /login to re-authenticate

Expected Behavior

There should be a simple toggle or command (e.g. /billing subscription) to switch back, just as easily as it was to switch TO extra usage.

Why This Matters

  • Switching TO extra usage: one-click popup, frictionless
  • Switching BACK: requires full re-login, breaks session

This is a textbook dark pattern. The asymmetry between opting in (one click) and opting out (re-login) feels intentional and user-hostile. Users shouldn't need to re-authenticate just to stop being charged extra.

Environment

  • Claude Code CLI (macOS)
  • Subscription: Max plan
  • Version: latest
