Unnecessary token consumption due to model errors

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Multiple times in the latest updates to one of my projects, Claude Code duplicated code and resource calls, leaving it quite a mess to untangle.

During troubleshooting, Claude identified that it accidentally created duplicate code and acknowledged that this caused the messy cascade of errors.

There should be a way to recover the tokens from incidents where Claude has made (and can acknowledge) these errors. It's a bad enough user experience when you lose time, but it's a bit of an insult to injury when we are also paying for our lost time with tokens.

What Should Happen?

Recovery of tokens for express cascading error time.

Error Messages/Logs

Claude Model

Is this a regression?

No, this never worked

Last Working Version

Anthropic API

Operating System

macOS

Terminal/Shell

Additional Information

Honestly, not trying to be a complainer. I think it's understandable to be frustrated by the loss of time and (tokens)/money when the errors are coming from the platform, and not due to poor prompting or user error.
