[BUG] Upgrading Claude desktop app causes crash requiring restart
Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Mar 30, 2026 by cmloegcmluin Closed Apr 3, 2026
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
Whenever I use the popup in the bottom left of the Claude desktop app on windows to upgrade to the latest version, when I restart Claude, it crashes: "another program is currently using this file". See screenshot. A restart of the computer fixes it; I find no zombie Claude processes in Task Manager.

What Should Happen?
I should be able to upgrade Claude without getting errors and restarting.
