Slack MCP connector not respecting Okta SSO — shows marketplace approval instead of auth

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Mar 27, 2026 by rogarci Closed Mar 31, 2026

Issue

When attempting to connect the Slack MCP connector on claude.ai/settings/integrations, the flow redirects to Slack's app marketplace approval page instead of the organization's Okta SSO authentication.

Expected behavior

Should redirect to Okta login (our organization uses Okta for SSO).

Actual behavior

Redirects to: 'Claude is requesting permission to access the Carta Slack workspace' → Slack Marketplace approval flow, with message: 'You've submitted a request for this app. Slackbot will notify you when your request is reviewed.'

Details

  • Organization: Carta (company-managed Slack workspace with Okta SSO)
  • Connector status: Shows as 'Interactive' on claude.ai settings
  • claude mcp list shows: plugin:slack:slack: https://mcp.slack.com/mcp (HTTP) - ✓ Connected
  • User previously connected without hitting this approval flow
  • This suggests either a regression or a misconfiguration in how the Slack MCP connector handles Okta-managed workspaces

Environment

  • Claude Code: VS Code extension
  • Model: Sonnet 4.6
  • Platform: macOS
