Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests and this feature hasn't been requested yet
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

I use my Claude Pro subscription for both personal and professional purposes. Sometimes when I run out of usage _while_ doing intensive professional tasks, I want to use pay-as-I-go pricing to continue so that I don't waste time in the workday. Other times, I do an intensive task and then hit the limit later on a petty personal request that's not important enough to pay for.

Right now I have to toggle extra usage on and off depending on what I'm doing. If I'm juggling multiple instances, some important some not, it becomes a huge pain.

Proposed Solution

A third setting where the "hit usage limit" error message that appears after a failed prompt includes a button to use credits to push this specific prompt through.

Alternative Solutions

I'm currently manually switching the setting on when I want to pay for extra usage, and then switching it back off when I don't.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Use Case Example

  1. I change Settings > Usage > Extra Usage from "Off" to "Ask".
  2. I'm having Claude do an intensive coding task and Claude hits usage limit.
  3. I get a message asking if I would like to continue on pay-as-you-go pricing, and hit yes, because I want to finish this today.
  4. Claude finishes the coding task.
  5. Later, I ask Claude later to help brainstorm birthday present ideas for my mom.
  6. I get a message asking if I would like to continue on pay-as-you-go pricing for that request, see that the usage limit resets in five minutes, and opt to wait the five minutes.
