  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

Claude Desktop currently has no way to set a default conversation style. Every new chat starts with the default style, requiring users to manually select their preferred style each time. For users who consistently prefer a specific style, such as "Concise", this is a repetitive and easy-to-forget step that degrades the experience across every single new conversation.

Proposed Solution

Add a "Default Conversation Style" setting to Claude Desktop preferences. This setting would let users select any available style (e.g., Concise, Normal, Explanatory) as the default applied automatically to all new chats. The setting should:

  • Be accessible from the Claude Desktop settings/preferences panel
  • Apply the chosen style automatically when a new chat is created, without requiring manual selection
  • Still allow per-chat style overrides, so users can change the style for individual conversations as needed

Use Case Example

A user who always works in "Concise" mode currently has to remember to select that style at the start of every new conversation. With a default style setting, they configure it once and every new chat automatically uses "Concise" — eliminating friction and ensuring a consistent experience.
