[BUG] Microphone button freezes after silence in iTerm2 and Terminal

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Mar 23, 2026 by romankapliy Closed Mar 26, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

After ~10 seconds of silence, the microphone button in Claude Code
becomes unresponsive. Clicking it does nothing.
To fix it I have to switch to another app and come back to iTerm2.

OS: macOS, iTerm2, Magic Keyboard
Claude Code version: 2.1.81

What Should Happen?

The microphone button should remain responsive after any pause in speech.
Pressing it again should immediately start a new recording session
without requiring the user to switch to another application and back.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Claude Code in any terminal (iTerm2, VS Code terminal, or default

macOS Terminal)

  1. Press the microphone button to start recording
  2. Speak something, then stop speaking
  3. Wait ~10 seconds without pressing anything
  4. Try to press the microphone button again

Result: the button does not respond at all. No recording starts.

Fix: switch to any other application (e.g. Finder), then switch back to the
terminal — the microphone button works again.

This happens consistently every time after a pause in all terminals tested:
iTerm2, VS Code integrated terminal, macOS Terminal.
