Configurable Compaction Warning Threshold to Prevent Conversation Degradation

Resolved 💬 7 comments Opened Jul 15, 2025 by mceachen Closed Jan 4, 2026

Bug Description
compaction causes Claude to behave inconsistently and seldom successfully. Prior warnings were critical to avoid the compaction-followed-by-sadness where claude undoes everything good in the initial conversation. Please revert your "we only show warnings at 80%" and/or make the percent user-configurable.

Also: while you're at it, please fix /config to not revert prior edits. Every time claude auto-updates, my prior config is deleted and it reverts to defaults. I'm using a "local" installation on ubuntu 24.04.
