User messages not visible in Claude Code chat

What's Wrong?

When chatting in Claude Code, the user's own messages are not displayed in the chat interface. Claude's responses appear correctly and the conversation works (Claude can read and respond to the messages), but the user's side of the conversation is invisible — the chat only shows Claude's replies, not the user's prompts.

What Should Happen?

The user's messages should be visible in the chat interface alongside Claude's responses, so both sides of the conversation are displayed.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Open Claude Code
2. Start a new chat session
3. Type a message and send it
4. Observe the chat — Claude's reply appears, but the user's message is not shown
5. Continue the conversation — Claude continues to receive and respond to messages, but none of the user's messages are rendered in the chat
