Problem Statement

Claude & Claude code used to support recalling a conversation in the current context window your speaking to him in. Now, Claude still does, but Claude Code does not. If I stop talking in a context window and then after X amount of time has passes, the context in that window gets chopped and Claude Code does not recall anything in that window.

Proposed Solution

This report is not about fixing that. I understand why it happens.

However, I suggest to at least change his response verbiage especially to those of us who have been using him for awhile now and are used to context windows the way they used to be. Instead of "I have no memory across sessions" Maybe something like "I have almost no memory across sessions. If this is an existing context window that you haven't spoken in, in X amount of hours the context gets cleared and thus I have no memory of it.

Maybe you can do a "checks and balances" ... something like "is this an existing context window?" -> Yes = Is this a new user? = <check subscription date> "if SubDate > X days = <The response I suggested above> else <Standard response> or if No: <Standard response regarding no memory>. Or if the answer to "is this an existing context window?" is No ... is this a new user? Yes = <standard response> else if No <Remember, I have no memory between sessions>.

Essentially, in a subtle way your acknowledging a long time customer through Claudes responses.

Alternative Solutions

Regarding his response, no, there is no workaround a customer can make. In response to "no memory across sessions" yes, have claude create a .MD file before I step away from the keyboard for awhile.
