API credits consumed after weekly base plan reset instead of switching back to base plan

Description

After the weekly base plan credits reset, Claude Code continued consuming paid API credits instead of switching back to the base plan. Manual intervention (toggling off API access in Settings) was required to restore base plan usage.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Have an active Claude Code Pro subscription (weekly base plan)
  2. Exhaust weekly base plan credits
  3. Purchase API credits (e.g. $5 top-up) via Settings to continue usage
  4. Continue using Claude Code — API credits are consumed as expected
  5. Wait for weekly base plan reset
  6. Continue using Claude Code after reset
  7. API credits continue to be drained instead of switching back to the base plan

Expected Behavior

Claude Code should prioritize base plan credits. Once the base plan resets, usage should automatically switch back to the base plan and stop consuming paid API credits.

Actual Behavior

API credits kept being consumed even after the base plan weekly reset. The $5 in API credits were fully exhausted before the issue was noticed. Manually toggling off the "API Access" toggle in Settings resolved it.

Impact

Lost paid API credits ($5) for usage that should have been covered by the base plan after weekly reset.

Environment

  • Platform: macOS (darwin 24.5.0)
  • Claude Code user: @Nerupudinho
