Need setting to disable auto-collapsing of tool results / restore scroll-to-top
Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Mar 13, 2026 by arthurworsley Closed Mar 16, 2026
Problem
Cannot scroll back to the top of a conversation to see what workstream I'm in. Tool results and agent outputs are auto-collapsed with "... +N lines (ctrl+o to expand)", and the overall conversation view is vertically truncated so earlier turns are no longer visible.
This is a significant UX regression for power users who use long sessions and need to orient themselves by reviewing earlier context.
Expected behavior
- Ability to scroll to the top of the conversation at any time
- Optionally: a setting like
expandToolResults: trueto disable auto-collapsing of tool output
Current workarounds
/renamehelps label the session but doesn't restore access to earlier turnsCtrl+Otranscript mode (when it works)/exportdumps full text but breaks flow
Environment
- Claude Code v2.1.74
- macOS, iTerm2
- Long sessions with many tool calls
