Termux Bash Shell Not Working After Update

I'm getting this too. Running in tmux as well in a nixos VM. Claude has been working perfect for me until the last update. Running it not in tmux still has this issue.

Claude still seems to work (excluding the Bash tool), and I tried these things but can't get the error to go away:

● Try these fixes:

  1. Add bash to your environment explicitly:
  export SHELL=/run/current-system/sw/bin/bash
  2. Check your PATH includes the shell directories:
  export PATH=$PATH:/run/current-system/sw/bin:/etc/profiles/per-user/tony/bin
  3. Create a .bashrc in your home directory:
  echo 'export SHELL=/run/current-system/sw/bin/bash' > ~/.bashrc
  source ~/.bashrc
  4. Try running claude with the shell explicitly:
  SHELL=/run/current-system/sw/bin/bash claude

that you for this bug report. in the last update, we changed our shell behavior a bit.
we used to try to just use your SHELL env var. this caused problems—Claude thinks it's using a POSIX shell, so starting nu or fish would kind of work and kind of not.

as of the recent update, we have a stricter allow list of shell binary locations and we only support bash and zsh:

    const shellPaths = [
      '/bin',
      '/usr/bin',
      '/usr/local/bin',
      '/opt/homebrew/bin',
    ]

If we can't find one of these, then the shell just won't start. Do you have bash or zsh installed somewhere but just not at one of these location? Happy to extend this list.

Yes:

/etc/profiles/per-user/tony/bin/zsh
➜  platform-ui git:(platform-dev-test) ✗ which bash
/run/current-system/sw/bin/bash

And I'm usually doing things in a nix shell so it's like this (the nix store string will change based on project):

[tony@devnix:/Users/tony/Dev/OpenSecret/platform-ui]$ which zsh
/etc/profiles/per-user/tony/bin/zsh

[tony@devnix:/Users/tony/Dev/OpenSecret/platform-ui]$ which bash
/nix/store/g2x2hichzhd6k2wdx6rxa04zxvs83nvn-bash-5.2p37/bin/bash

ok this is the problem. sorry for breaking this. let me work on this a bit and reply back, hopefully we can have a patch out soon

in my case I was trying claude on mobile devices with terminal emulator termux. The shell path is:
/data/data/com.termux/files/usr/bin/bash

we just published 0.2.32. can you please let me know if this fixes the issue?
