[BUG] There is no `/effort` command in Claude Code (native)

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Mar 12, 2026 by mikehdt Closed Mar 16, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

The recent changelogs - and even Claude Code itself! - refers to an /effort switch, but this only seems to exist in the VSCode extension (that I'm aware of). Not in Claude Code native. Typing /effort in Claude Code (native) instead returns Unknown skill: effort

But on the right side, it shows: ● high · /effort for example, which is possibly misleading or unintended.

What Should Happen?

Either /effort should be exposed for Claude Code native, or it should not be referenced if it's intended to not be there.

Again, in VSCode, /effort exists, but not in the terminal Claude Code. The /model command does let you change effort in the terminal version, no problem there, this is about the reference to a specific /effort switch.
